How battery storage affects your FIT payments
Do I need to tell my Licensee (Good Energy) if I have a home battery?
Yes – it’s an Ofgem requirement to tell us if you have battery storage installed as part of your FIT installation.
I’m planning to add a battery. How can I make sure it’s FIT compliant?
There are a couple of different options when it comes to adding a solar battery to a FIT registered system. Our expert team can support you to make the best decision for your needs and your home:
AC-coupled batteries (e.g. Tesla Powerwall 3): Easy to integrate with FIT systems; installed after your generation meter with its own battery inverter.
DC-coupled batteries (e.g. SolarEdge Battery): More complicated to integrate with a FIT system, but possible, particularly if you are replacing your inverter at the same time. Requires a hybrid inverter and a bi-directional meter providing a net reading to track your generated and exported solar power accurately.
Important! If you’re considering adding a battery, you’ll need to inform your FIT provider and send them a diagram of your proposed system layout to safeguard your payments.
I’ve added a battery to a FIT-registered installation, what do I need to do?
OFGEM have said that all systems which include a battery, whether they are existing or new installations, need to be declared to your FIT licensee. If this applies to you, please send us a schematic showing where the battery is located within your installation. The position of the battery may affect whether you are still eligible to receive deemed export payments.
