One of Britain’s most iconic film studios is deepening its commitment to going green. Ealing Studios is partnering with clean power company, Good Energy, to install six electric vehicle charging points at its base in West London.

Ealing Studios is the oldest film studio in the world, in operation since 1902, and continues to host international TV and film productions. The company is now shifting its business to tackle the climate crisis head-on, recognising the key role the creative industries play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and influencing wider societal change.

The 22 kilowatt fast chargers will be installed at two locations across the site, including the Grade-II listed White House building. The investment is designed to support its employees and clients make sustainable choices. Good Energy will operate and maintain the charge points over an initial three-year period.

The investment is the second pilot project for Good Energy’s new One Point service, which simplifies EV charging for businesses by offering a streamlined, all-in-one package. The first project involved installing four charge points at Watergate Bay Hotel in Cornwall.

This latest move follows Ealing Studio’s decision last year to switch to 100% renewable power. Good Energy will supply its entire site with 4,750,000 kilowatt hours of clean power over two years, an estimated saving of 1,204 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This is the equivalent of taking almost 1,000 cars off the road each year.

Tim Wynn-Jones, Head of Energy Solutions at Good Energy, said: “Ealing Studios is showing how the creative sector can take meaningful climate action. Britain has a world-leading film and TV industry, but it’s also energy intensive and often reliant on dirty energy. Good Energy’s One Point service is designed to make it easy for businesses to offer EV charging, while further cutting emissions with 100% renewable power.”

Ealing’s Studio Manager, Charlie Fremantle, said: “As part of our ongoing relationship with Good Energy, we are keen to provide our clients with on-site charging solutions as the current demand for electric vehicles will only increase as more sustainable and more affordable models come into the market. Productions are increasingly looking at sustainable and green business models and at Ealing we are leading the way in offering productions viable solutions

Ealing Studios worked closely with albert, BAFTA’s sustainability initiative, on arranging the right deal for its site. The contract was secured through the Creative Energy Project, a partnership between Good Energy and albert, which offers film & TV production companies 100% renewable power, preferential pricing, and sustainability advice.

Michelle Whitehead, albert’s Project Manager, said: “We set up the Creative Energy Project to help companies take action on one of the largest parts of their carbon footprint and were so pleased when Ealing Studios chose to join us. It’s encouraging to see how one ‘green’ step leads to another and that Ealing is now pioneering this new scheme with Good Energy. We hope that other studios will follow suit.”
