Our 5-star Trustpilot rating hasn’t happened by accident. Behind every solar installation is a team of experts who design, install and maintain them – helping homeowners lower their bills and generate their own clean power. And, because everything is handled by our in-house team – not third parties – our customers know exactly who they’re working with from start to finish.

Below, you can meet some of the people you could be speaking to at each stage of your solar journey, from experienced designers to friendly customer advisors.

Step 1: Speak with a solar expert about your home

Your solar journey starts with a quick conversation. One of our solar advisors will talk through your home, your energy use and what you’re hoping to achieve. They’ll answer your questions, explain how solar works, and help gather the details our design team needs to create your bespoke proposal.

Harriet Manners, Sales Consultant

“Day in and day out, I run the numbers and continuously see payback periods of less than 5 years.”

Harriet has helped over 100 homeowners make the switch to solar, and she’s seen first-hand how quickly it can pay off. With four years’ experience in renewables, she enjoys helping people understand how solar works, what’s worth considering, and what makes sense for their home.

Ross Stevens, Lead Designer

“I don’t just design solar systems, I live with one. And I design every system to do what mine does: minimises my energy bill.”

With a degree in Renewable Energy Engineering and over five years designing solar systems, Ross leads the design of systems across the team. His own home is fully kitted with solar and battery too, so he knows exactly how it feels when everything’s working beautifully.

Rob Mays, Sales Consultant

“I always want what’s best for the customer with honest advice that will work brilliantly in their home.”

With a background in building and logistics, Rob understands what makes an installation work smoothly. He’s designed and surveyed hundreds of successful systems – including for listed properties – so he knows how to find practical solutions even on the trickiest sites.

Step 2: Our designers create your personalised proposal

Next, our design team gets to work. Using satellite imagery, technical modelling and the details you’ve shared, they’ll design a system tailored to your home. Your proposal will include everything you need to make an informed decision – from system size and costs to estimated savings and carbon reductions.

Nathan Ritson, Technical Manager

“It’s a great feeling to provide quality systems and aftercare for our customers. I know with real certainty how pleased they will be.”

Nathan has worked at Good Energy for nearly 9 years, having installed many solar and battery systems that help our customers reduce their reliance on the grid. He also has solar, as well as a battery and hot water controller at home, so has seen the savings first hand.

Matt Andrews, Solar Team Lead

“I take pride in taking the time to install a system correctly. And always fitting to a quality that I would expect on my own property.”

Matt has 18 years experience in the solar industry, and enjoys building a reputation on quality of product and workmanship, as well as customer experience. With genuine passion for the work, and his own system installed 15 years ago, Matt takes real pride in working with his team to deliver systems customers can rely on for years to come.

Luke Anderson, Business Development Manager

“I talk about solar every day — but I also have it on my own roof. Seeing the savings first-hand reinforces why it makes so much sense.”

Luke works closely with homeowners exploring solar, helping them understand how generating their own electricity can reduce bills and reliance on the grid. Having designed and installed a solar and battery system at his own home, he knows first-hand the difference it can make. For Luke, the best part is seeing people realise just how much control they can have over their energy.

Step 3: You receive expert installation in as little as one day**

Once you’re happy to go ahead, our in-house installation team takes care of the rest. Most systems are installed in a single day, and our team will show you how everything works so you can start generating your own clean electricity straight away.

Tyler Azzopardi, Solar Electrician

“What matters most to me is reliability and trust. It’s about making sure every system is running exactly as it should from day one.”

Having joined Good Energy six years ago as an apprentice, Tyler takes real pride in the standards we uphold. He believes it’s not just about fixing issues when they arise, but about preventative maintenance, attention to detail, and ensuring long-term performance.

Charlie Stickley, Trainee Electrician

“I enjoy helping homeowners get the most out of solar – especially when it means lower bills and more control over their energy.”

Charlie has nearly three years’ hands-on experience in renewables and is currently training as an electrician. From rooftop panel fitting to full electrical integration, he enjoys tailoring each installation to the home it’s going on and is passionate about energy independence.

Your solar questions answered

Solar panels are made out of photovoltaic cells that convert the sun’s energy into electricity. This direct current is then passed through an inverter to convert it into an alternating current, which can be fed into the National Grid or  used by the home or business that the solar panels are attached to.

For a better understanding, click here for our straightforward overview.

Solar installation costs vary based on the size of the photovoltaic (PV) system, whether you are including a battery, your roof type, labour requirements, scaffold needs, and cabling.

A typical cost for a 10 panel system starts from just £6,120; and including a Tesla Powerwall 3 around £13,600.

You can see the full breakdown of solar panel costs here.

Most UK homeowners won’t qualify for the heavily advertised “free solar” schemes — these are usually aimed at low-income households or social housing tenants. What you can benefit from is the government’s 0% VAT rate on solar and battery installs, which takes thousands off the upfront cost automatically.

You may also be eligible for green finance products from mortgage providers, such as Nationwide’s 0% Additional Borrowing or Lloyds’ Eco Home Reward. And with Good Energy, you can unlock one of the UK’s best export tariffs — earning up to 25p per kWh when you install solar and a battery with us.

For a clear breakdown of genuine support versus scams, read our full guide here.

On average, customers can save up to £975 annually on their electricity bills after installing solar panels. Your exact savings depend on a lot of factors, including:

  • The size of the solar system
  • Roof orientation and local weather patterns
  • Whether your installation includes a battery
  • Your energy tariff
  • Your electricity consumption and usage patterns
  • And your export tariff

Joining a high paying export tariff, such as Good Energy’s Solar Savings, will hugely boost your solar earnings. All of your earnings will be added as a credit on your energy account, paying for your energy usage in the winter months.

If you’ve been wondering whether solar panels are really worth it, the best place to start is by hearing from someone who’s already made the switch. Imogen shares the real savings her family made in their first year with solar – and whether she thinks it was worth the investment – in her case study here.
