Good Energy, the UK’s leading renewable energy company, has launched a new way for homeowners to pay for solar panels, helping more households generate their own clean electricity and cut energy bills.

The service allows homeowners to spread the cost of a solar installation over a period of time rather than paying the full amount upfront, addressing one of the biggest barriers to solar adoption.

The launch comes as households continue to feel the impact of high energy costs and look for practical ways to reduce bills, protect themselves from future price shocks and take greater control of their energy use.

Interest in solar continues to grow at an unprecedented rate. Research commissioned by Good Energy found that more than half (51%) of UK adults say the impact of energy prices from geopolitical instability as a result of conflict in the Middle East has increased their interest in solar panels, while nearly a third cite energy independence as a key motivation, and long-term savings (46%) on energy bills are the biggest driver of interest in solar.

Despite this demand, affordability remains a barrier for many. More than a quarter (26%) of UK adults say lower upfront costs or the ability to spread payments would encourage them to install solar panels.

The new finance option, which has been launched in partnership with Zopa Bank, is designed to help more homeowners make the switch. Through its FCA Authorised Principle Shermin Finance, Good Energy can connect customers with tailored funding options to support the installation of clean energy technologies. Zopa Bank serves around two million customers across borrowing, saving and everyday banking products, with a focus on making financial services simpler and more accessible.

The finance package is designed to remove one of the biggest barriers to solar adoption: the upfront cost. Customers can install solar with a 25% deposit and spread the remaining balance over a choice of five, seven, eight or ten-year repayment terms at 9.9%APR representative. By giving homeowners greater flexibility over how they fund a solar installation, the offer makes it easier for more households to access the financial and environmental benefits of generating their own renewable electricity.

To illustrate the potential benefits, a typical 10-panel solar system costing £6,380 could be installed with a 25% deposit of £1,595 and the remaining balance financed over 10 years with monthly repayments of £62. The household is also able to start generating their own renewable electricity to sell back to the grid. See representative example below.*

For customers who remain in their home after the term has ended, their solar system can continue generating clean energy and reducing reliance on fluctuating electricity prices.

Good Energy has already seen strong growth in demand for solar with 2026 being its most successful year for commercial and consumer sales. Overall, Google Trends data shows that search for renewables has increased 60% year on year following the impact of conflict in the Middle East on energy prices.

Carl Hogg, Managing Director at Good Energy Services, said:

“Households across the UK are continuing to feel the squeeze from high energy costs, and many families are looking for practical ways to take greater control of their household spending. We’re seeing more people turn to solar because it offers a way to reduce reliance on volatile energy markets and generate electricity at home. At the same time, the impacts of climate change are becoming more visible in everyday life, with extreme weather events bringing home the importance of building a cleaner, more resilient energy system.”

“For many customers, the challenge isn’t whether they want solar; it’s finding a way to manage the upfront cost. By partnering with Zopa, we’re making it easier for more homeowners to spread the cost – which will open up an opportunity for thousands more to start benefiting from home-grown renewable energy.”

“With over 25 years’ experience in renewables, Good Energy handles everything from designing and installing your solar, to managing your export tariff and energy supply, customised to your needs. Our regional install teams bring local knowledge and experience from fitting over 5,500 solar and battery installations, backed by a 25-year warranty.”
