Simon’s story: upgrading to a smarter, solar-powered home
In 2022, Simon had his first solar PV and battery system installed by Good Energy. The timing couldn’t have been better, and his “fantastic” smart home upgrades brought stability and substantial savings to the household: “The system made a huge difference to our energy costs, particularly at a time when the energy market became extremely volatile.”
Key Stats:
📍 Location: Kent
✅ Set up: Solar PV panels, Tesla Powerwall 3, and EV charger
✅ Size: 3.6kWp solar panel array and 13.5 kWh total battery storage
📊 Carbon offset: Equivalent to planting 82 trees each year
The challenge: Unlocking a new home’s solar potential without delays from other providers
Simon originally contacted the team with an enquiry in early 2021. We responded promptly, taking the time to talk through Simon’s ideas: “Our contact, Ross, knew his stuff and was able to talk me through the potential solutions – and played devil’s advocate a bit to my thinking which was really helpful.”
The whole process was managed smoothly, with stock and installation availability that other providers couldn’t offer at the time. In fact, when the time came for us to install their EV charger, Simon had been waiting for months to hear back from other providers.
“Everyone we dealt with was super knowledgeable and gave great customer service. The install teams were friendly (especially when fed with tea and biscuits!) and left things tidy afterwards.”
The solution: A full solar, battery, and EV system designed before moving day
When Simon and his family found a new home with a larger south-facing roof, he made it non-negotiable. He reached out to us before the move had even gone through, and our team created a solar and battery design before he’d exchanged contracts.
While the decision wasn’t purely financial, Simon notes that the return on investment was impressive: “By the time we moved from our original property, the system had returned almost 2/3rds of the investment in energy savings and added value to the house.”
Result: 80% solar-powered and counting
Over the summer, the solar system covered more than 80% of their home’s energy needs, including charging their electric vehicle: “The system has almost completely mitigated our use of peak rate electricity.”
With long-term savings, increased energy independence, and great service throughout, Simon is more than happy to recommend JPS and Good Energy.
“We’ve been really pleased with how the system has performed over the summer meaning around 80%+ of our energy needs have been met by solar power (including car charging) and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Good Energy based on our experience!”
One year on…
Simon returned to let us know: “Your prediction was spot on!! You helped us put our system together and it’s been in a year today! Just wanted to say it’s been great so far, and we’ve referred numerous others. The common question people ask is if the figures “really” match the prediction… in this case, it couldn’t be any closer!”
