Simon’s story: upgrading to a smarter, solar-powered home 

In 2022, Simon had his first solar PV and battery system installed by Good Energy. The timing couldn’t have been better, and his “fantastic” smart home upgrades brought stability and substantial savings to the household: “The system made a huge difference to our energy costs, particularly at a time when the energy market became extremely volatile.”

The challenge: Unlocking a new home’s solar potential without delays from other providers

Simon originally contacted the team with an enquiry in early 2021. We responded promptly, taking the time to talk through Simon’s ideas: “Our contact, Ross, knew his stuff and was able to talk me through the potential solutions – and played devil’s advocate a bit to my thinking which was really helpful.” 

The whole process was managed smoothly, with stock and installation availability that other providers couldn’t offer at the time. In fact, when the time came for us to install their EV charger, Simon had been waiting for months to hear back from other providers.

The solution: A full solar, battery, and EV system designed before moving day

When Simon and his family found a new home with a larger south-facing roof, he made it non-negotiable. He reached out to us before the move had even gone through, and our team created a solar and battery design before he’d exchanged contracts.

While the decision wasn’t purely financial, Simon notes that the return on investment was impressive: “By the time we moved from our original property, the system had returned almost 2/3rds of the investment in energy savings and added value to the house.” 

Result: 80% solar-powered and counting 

Over the summer, the solar system covered more than 80% of their home’s energy needs, including charging their electric vehicle: “The system has almost completely mitigated our use of peak rate electricity.”
