Meet Charles, one of our community of over 2,000 renewable generators.

He’s the owner of The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company, a Worcestershire-based company producing natural wedding confetti that is grown, picked and dried at the stunning Wyke Manor Estate.

Wanting to benefit local people and the planet, Charles commissioned a hydro scheme on his land, which was completed in 2014. The hydro scheme directly powers the local leisure centre on the opposite side of the river. The rest is sold to Good Energy as part of our 100% renewable electricity mix.

Living in harmony with nature

After suffering devastating flooding in 1998 and 2007, Charles wanted to harness the power of the water in a positive way. The hydro scheme design has reshaped the river bank, directing water through a new leat off the main river. This quieter section has become a haven for local wildlife, including otters and rare wildfowl.

“In building the hydro where we did, we’ve created a new quieter leat here. Only last year I was looking up the leat and suddenly this otter’s face appeared and looked at me. It was a magical moment.”

Working with Good Energy

The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company have sold their power to Good Energy ever since the scheme was built in 2014.

“I feel really happy working with a company whose ethics, morals and ambitions and purpose are the same as mine.

“To have somebody that is taking the initiative and linking us with the customer, it gives one a feeling of strength that together we are going to build a sustainable future.” says Charles.
