What are REGOs?
REGOs (Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin) are certificates that prove units of energy have been generated from renewable sources. REGOs are bought by energy suppliers to show that the electricity they supply is renewable.
Recently, the price of REGOs has risen to a level meaning that sites that only generate a small amount of power can receive a worthwhile payment.
The REGO market isn’t perfect, and Good Energy has argued for changes for years. However, it is currently the only way small-scale renewable generators can be recognised and rewarded for their increasing contribution to making Britain’s energy grid greener.

**Solar Savings is a variable export tariff, the rate paid can change. If you are on the Feed-in Tariff, Solar Savings will replace your export payments, but you will still receive your quarterly generation payments.

The Good Energy FIT REGO Boost service allows customers to receive a fair price for their REGOs without them having to manage any of the administrative burden.
Good Energy’s REGO Service is easy to opt into. We register your sites for REGO accreditation directly with Ofgem, and submit generation data to them annually on your behalf. Once a year, Ofgem will issue your REGOs to Good Energy, and we will pay you the market rate for your REGOs for each site.
Good Energy’s FIT REGO Boost service is free to our FIT customers. If you’d like to switch your FIT to us, book a meeting with our FIT team for a free no obligation chat.
You can sign up to FIT REGO Boost by clicking on the unique email link we send. Once you appoint Good Energy as your REGO agent, we’ll handle the application process and ensure you’re paid annually.
You don’t need to do anything extra, but you’ll need to make sure that generation meter readings are submitted each quarter.
After you sign up, Good Energy will manage your Ofgem accreditation, monitor your REGO status, and process your payments annually. We’ll also keep you informed about your portfolio’s performance and any actions required on your end.

You’ll receive usual meter reading reminders and account management communications. Our customer support team is also available for any issues or questions you may have.
To be eligible to receive payments for your REGOs in 2025, you must let us know by 20th October 2024 that you wish to opt in.
If you change your mind, you must provide us with notice if you intend to de-appoint us as Agent. Notice must be provided by the May of each compliance year. If notice is provided, we will not make payment to you for any REGOs in that compliance year.
REGO stands for Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin. The REGO scheme provides certificates (REGOs) which show that electricity has come from renewable sources such as your solar panels. Suppliers use REGO certificates to prove to consumers if any electricity they source is from renewable electricity. One REGO certificate is issued per MWh.
The REGO scheme is administered by Ofgem. They require the process to be completed within certain timescales as REGOs are included in a Supplier’s Fuel Mix Disclosure submission and this is completed in July.
No, there’s no obligation for you to complete this process. Your FIT account is in no way impacted by not opting in you’ll get paid your FIT payments as usual.
REGO certification, whilst an imperfect system that Good Energy has been critical of, is the current way that renewable generation is accounted for in the UK energy grid. So, without being certified, the value of small scale generators is not being fully recognised. We believe small scale generation will have an even more important role in the future, and that it should be recognised and rewarded fully.
We plan to pioneer this future by matching the clean power our FIT customers share with the electricity our supply customers use. For that to happen our FIT customers need to get fair value and be recognised as renewable, which means they must be certified for REGOs and be paid for them.
Alongside smart export, FIT REGO Boost helps pave the way for us being able to match the power our FiT customers generate with what our supply customers use.
It’s a service we are offering that other suppliers aren’t, making us stand out and encouraging more FiT customers to join Good Energy.
The price we pay for REGOs will be market reflective. REGO prices vary depending on the time of year and current affairs.
We won’t purchase your REGOs – your REGOs will be issued to us by Ofgem. The number issued will be based on the Generation data for your site that we will submit to them. This will cover an annual period.
You will receive a REGOs payment annually. This will be made by the same means that you currently receive your FIT payments.
Greenwashing is when a company presents itself in a way that makes you think they’re sustainable – when they’re not. Its misleading because it makes customers think they’re having a positive impact, when they’re actually still supporting unsustainable business practices that are damaging our planet.
Good Energy has always been clear that REGOs used to certify electricity as ‘renewable’ when it has not been procured from a renewable source, is greenwashing. But REGOs in themselves are not greenwashing — we used them to certify our genuinely green electricity, which we procure direct from renewable generators.
