Introducing Power Partners

We all want to know where our energy comes from. Particularly when it’s been generated from the power of nature rather than a fossil fuel power station.

That’s where Power Partners come in. It’s our new series showing how we match the energy our business customers use with energy generated by our community of 2000 independent renewable generators.

Power Partner: IMG Studios and Albourne Estate

IMG Studios is a huge broadcasting facility on the western edge of London. With over 600m2 of broadcasting space across four studios, they work with clients including Prime Video, BBC Sport and the Premier League. They are committed to sustainable production practices, and the entire facility is powered by our 100% renewable electricity via our partnership with BAFTA’s albert creative energy project.

60 miles away in the Sussex countryside is Albourne Estate. The family-owned vineyard and winery has installed 159 solar panels, which they use to power their operations. They also export a considerable amount of renewable energy to the grid – providing some of the energy used by IMG Studios.

“Your energy supplier is probably the most important decision you will make. As much as we are trying our best to use less and less power, if we are using renewable energy then that’s amazing.”

Brian Leonard, Head of Engineering IMG Studios.

“We’re happy to work with Good Energy. As a small producer, Good Energy fits with what we are all about.”

Alison Nightingale, Vineyard Owner and Winemaker, Albourne Estate.

Power Partners: The Wave and Cwm Cadian Hydro

The Wave is an inland ‘slice of the ocean’ close to Bristol, providing a space for people to surf, eat, drink and relax. It boasts an 180 metre long outdoor surfpool that can produce around 1,000 waves every hour for surfers of all abilities to enjoy.

125 miles away, on the southern edge of Snowdonia, is Cwm Cadian Hydro. The hydro generates 300MWh of clean electricity each year – providing some of the energy used by The Wave.

It was always going to be the case that we would use sustainable energy. We’re really passionate that if people feel connected to nature and the environment, they are more inclined to go out and look after it.

Jay Hookins, General Manager, The Wave

It’s great that we’re supplying The Wave with electricity. Of course we’re not directly supplying them, there is not a wire from here down to Bristol. But the grid is integrated across all of the UK. Every bit of electricity we generate here is saving electricity being generated in a gas or a coal fired power station.

Billy Langley, Cwm Cadian Hydro

There you have it. Perfect surf, powered by water.
