The challenge: Major retailer on a carbon reduction journey
Selco is a builders’ warehouse with over 70 branches throughout the UK. They’re on a journey to cut their carbon emissions, which has included switching some of their fleet and warehouse plant to electric.
They chose Good Energy Solar to install solar arrays across six Selco branches between 2022 and 2024 – bringing down their carbon footprint and reducing their reliance on the electricity grid.
The Solution: A SolarEdge optimised solar array, saving nearly 87 tonnes of CO2 each year
Good Energy Solar installed SolarEdge optimised solar arrays at six Selco branches across the country, including Barking, Romford, Stirchley, Sutton, Swansea and York.
These solar panels produce a combined carbon saving of over 87 tonnes a year, the equivalent of planting more than 5,100 trees. What’s more, each array has a payback period of around four years, meaning a quick return on investment. Combined, the solar panels bring annual bill savings of £168,000 each year.
“The installation of solar panels at a number of branches have resulted in significant reductions in our carbon footprint. When the system is operating at capacity, we are seeing the solar panels generate close to 100% of the energy required for the branch.
“We’re delighted with the impact we are seeing on the overall energy consumption where solar panels have been installed and we look forward to seeing further progress replicated across other branches over time.” Craig Bowler, Head of Development at Selco
