The challenge: Eco-conscious university driving down emissions and energy costs

Bournemouth University, located in Dorset, is dedicated to providing enriching, high-quality education while demonstrating responsible environmental stewardship.

The university already worked to actively integrate environmental consciousness into its educational programme. But, through partnering with Good Energy, they embraced sustainability in a more tangible way. By installing a rooftop solar system, they aimed to cut carbon emissions, lower energy bills, and further mitigate the environmental impact of their operations.

The Solution: A 192-panel solar array that pays back in more ways than one

As principal contractors, Good Energy Solar implemented an 80.64KW solar energy system, incorporating cutting-edge technology such as 192 Jinko solar panels, 96 optimisers, and 2 SolarEdge inverters. Since going live, the system has delivered a whopping 73,783 kWh of power, saving the university an impressive £20,290.33 on electricity bills. What’s more, the initiative has significantly shrunk the university’s carbon footprint, reducing annual CO2 emissions by 41,061 kilograms (41 tonnes).

Through future-proofing their infrastructure, Bournemouth University reinforced their fiscal responsibility to stakeholders and governing bodies, while showcasing their dedication to sustainable practices to their students and staff. Leading by example, their campus facilities now help meet broader climate targets, as recognised in 2024’s Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, which placed Bournemouth University joint 39th in the world for its progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
