Juliet Davenport hosts new environmental podcast
Great Green Questions launches today
Great Green Questions, a new environmental podcast by Good Energy, launches today. The podcast is a light-hearted and witty exploration of some of the big questions that come up when trying to ‘walk the green line’.
Great Green Questions is hosted by Juliet Davenport, climate scientist, environmental activist and founder of the UK’s first 100% renewable electricity company Good Energy.
The podcast will feature the likes of chef, food columnist and best-selling cookbook author Melissa Hemsley, environmentalist, birdwatcher, and writer Dr Mya-Rose Craig (Birdgirl), environmental entrepreneur, speaker, futurist, and author Ed Gillespie.
It has been curated by Hawkwood Centre for Future Thinking and produced by Mags Creative, the team behind successful podcasts such as Deliciously Ella: The Podcast, and CASTaway with Laura Whitmore.
Juliet Davenport commented: “It’s so easy to feel guilty about not being the perfect environmentalist. With comedians and experts, I’ll be tackling some of the common questions that pop to mind when trying to live a greener life. Must we forgo flights to fight the big fight? Is being vegan the only way to save the planet? And are bananas really bad?”
In the first episode of the series, Juliet is joined by stand-up comedian, writer, and broadcaster, Eshaan Akbar, as well as, actor, comedy-performer, and writer Robert Llewellyn, to explore the question ‘can I be an environmentalist and still love cars?’
Juliet honestly shares that although she is an environmentalist, her childhood influenced her love for fast cars: “I am an environmentalist, but I grew up with a father who was a rally driver, so I grew up loving fast cars. I think my father put me on a tractor when I was seven, and ever since then, I’ve been in a love affair.”
Throughout the episode Eshaan and Robert candidly explain their own use of cars and travel, including online deliveries, driving into work, and flying to other countries to be with partners. Eshann shares: “I’m an environmentalist, but I order way too many things online, and I’m definitely contributing to air miles, and road miles. I’ve tried to get better by trying to do same day delivery, but then I remember something else to buy, because I know that I can get all of my deliveries packaged together. I know that I’m obsessively online shopping, and it’s bad for deliveries and the impact on the environment.”
Upcoming themes in the series include:
- Should we shelter our children from the gravity of climate change? featuring Bobby Seagull, Dr Mya-Rose Craig (Birdgirl), and Andy Field.
- Are we throwing away our future with our food? featuring Ed Gillespie, Mellissa Hemsley, and Carolyn Steel.
- Kim didn’t break the internet, but is the internet breaking the planet? featuring Mike Berners Lee and Ken Cheng.
- Can we shop our way out of climate change? featuring Mart Drake Knight, Cyndi Rhoades and Sikisa.
