Good Energy is committed to sharing the benefits of renewable energy with the local communities around our generation sites.

We started consulting with communities around The Big Field Wind Farm site more than a year before we submitted our planning application.

Drawing on feedback from local consultation, we’re proposing a community benefit package with a combined value of £5,000 per MW per year rising with inflation for the lifetime of the project.

This package will be made up of a community fund and (subject to demand) a local energy tariff offering renewable electricity at 20% less than Good Energy’s standard prices to homes within 5km of the wind farm.

We’re also developing proposals submitted at the time of our original planning application to enable the wind farm to become majority-owned by a range of local investors. These could include local residents, community groups and other local organisations.

Our community ownership proposals will form part of the case we make for the project at planning inquiry in spring 2016.
