Chippenham energy company in park clean up 07.03.17

Staff from Chippenham-based renewable energy company Good Energy downed their sandwiches and picked up litter in a lunchtime volunteer clean-up.

The volunteer litter-picking team from Good Energy spent their lunch break helping to clean up Monkton Park as part of the ‘Love Chippenham’ campaign run by local community group Off the Ground.

Juliet Davenport, Founder and Chief Executive of Good Energy, said, “We’re lucky to have such a lovely park on our doorstep, so we thought it was only right to help keep it that way.

“So many of our staff enjoy the park, for a lunchtime stroll in the fresh air or even as an outdoor meeting space, so they leapt at the chance to show it a bit of love.”

She added “I really wanted to be there – it’s really important to show how proud we are of our local Chippenham community.”

The Good Energy volunteers were among the first to use a new ‘super-bin’ installed in Monkton Park. The bin includes several sets of litter-picking equipment so community volunteers can help keep the park clean and tidy whenever it suits them.

Beverly Walker, spokesperson for Off the Ground, said “We’re keen to encourage residents and businesses to take responsibility for their own environment.

“We hope Good Energy has set an example for all local businesses to follow and this will lead to a cleaner, greener Chippenham for everyone to enjoy.”

The activity took place just ahead of the Great British Spring clean campaign – a national campaign with the aim of encouraging people to clear up litter.
