Proposed solar farm development at Lymm

Renewable electricity company Good Energy is inviting local residents in Lymm to review and comment on its proposals for a 5MW solar farm development on land to the south of the village.

The 33-acre site at Wildersmoor Hall Farm extends across four fields and is well-screened by existing hedgerows on and around the farm.  The farm would be capable of providing enough electricity to meet the needs of around 1,300 average homes, and is being designed to allow sheep to graze between and around the panels. This will enable the landowner to continue his family’s farming tradition while diversifying into renewable electricity generation.

Good Energy is committed to being a good neighbor. Plans for the solar farm will include:

  • Enhancing biodiversity of the site by planting new wildflower meadows and grassland to encourage pollinating insects, small mammals and ground-nesting and foraging birds.
  • Improvements to hedgerows and purpose-built habitats such as bird boxes and refuges to provide safe haven for a rich variety of species.
  • A community fund worth at least £1,000 per MW of installed capacity, rising with inflation, for every year the solar farm is operating, to be managed by local people to support local projects.

Before it submits a planning application to Warrington Borough Council, Good Energy is holding a series of public exhibition events in Lymm to enable local residents and other stakeholders to find out more about the project and comment on the proposals

A staffed exhibition will take place on Thursday, 20 August at the Lymm Youth and Community Centre on Bridgewater Street, Lymm from 3pm-8pm.  Members of the project team will be available to discuss the proposals and to receive feedback on the development.

There will also bean unstaffed display in the upstairs hall at the community centre on Thursday mornings on 27 August and 3 September (during market days) from 9am-12noon.  Feedback forms will be available.
