This week, Good Energy attended and sponsored the Creative Green Awards, an event celebrating the many creative organisations taking action against climate change and building sustainability into their business models.

Now in their second year, the awards were created and hosted by Julie’s Bicycle – a leading charity bridging the gap between environmental sustainability and the creative sector.

We’ve partnered with Julie’s Bicycle for several years and together have helped museums, theatres, galleries and festivals across the country to lead the way in reducing their impact on the environment by turning away from fossil fuels.

Our founder and CEO, Juliet Davenport, appeared on the judging panel, working alongside Bella Sereno, Environmental and Resource Manager at Tate, and Dr Russell Layberry, Senior Researcher at Oxford University’s Environmental Change Institute, to select worthy winners across ten categories.

Alison Tickell, Julie’s Bicycle CEO commented:

It was fantastic to have Juliet as a judge and to have her at the event to present the Improvement Award. Such a great way to celebrate our partnership, which we are very proud of.

Highest Achievement for Improvement

Juliet presented Good Energy’s sponsored award ‘Highest Achievement for Improvement’ to Glyndebourne, the celebrated independent opera house in East Sussex, which also hosts the annual summer Glyndebourne festival.

Glyndebourne began considering ways to address its environmental impact in 2005, and has the long term aim to become carbon neutral in its direct operations.

In 2012, the opera house made the huge decision to install a 67 metre tall wind turbine, which on balance over the year meets all of the organisation’s energy needs, resulting in a 50% reduction in carbon emissions.

The turbine was opened by none other than Sir David Attenborough, and is one in a long list of measures that Glyndebourne has taken to lower its environmental footprint – from green travel solutions to reusable polystyrene for props.

The Creative Green Awards ceremony was a thoroughly motivational event, and we enjoyed meeting, networking with and learning from creative businesses inspired to drive down emissions and power a more sustainable future.
