In this article, we explore some of the business benefits of installing onsite renewable generation.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"save-on-your-energy-bills\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Save on your energy bills<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/why-are-energy-prices-still-so-high\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rates remain high<\/a> across the energy industry, with wholesale energy prices more than double what they were before the energy crisis started in autumn 2021.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Business energy rates aren\u2019t covered by the same type of regulations as domestic energy contracts, such as the Ofgem energy price cap. And while additional government support for households was announced in summer 2021, the equivalent scheme for businesses \u2013 the Energy Bill Relief Scheme \u2013 wasn\u2019t announced until October.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, rather than being entirely dependent on buying electricity, generating it onsite can make your business more self-sufficient. Using your own electricity can also shield you from some of the volatility of wholesale energy price changes and changeable levels of government support.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What\u2019s more, the UK\u2019s most popular technology for onsite generation, solar PV, is cheaper than it was even five years ago. On average, larger systems cost around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenmatch.co.uk\/solar-energy\/solar-panels\/commercial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a31,000 per kW<\/a> of installed capacity. Domestic arrays are typically up to 4kw, whereas larger commercial arrays could be 10kW or more, depending on your needs.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>With electricity prices remaining high, solar installs advise that homes and businesses can both expect to get a return on the cost of installing solar within <a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/home-solar-panels-pay-themselves-four-years-energy-bills-1796274\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3-5 years<\/a>. Bear in mind that your payback period depends on various factors, including your contract rates, your electricity demand, and how much of your solar electricity you\u2019re able to use. To use more of the electricity you generate, consider a system that includes battery storage as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/business\/green-technology-for-your-business\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"384\" src=\"https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/MicrosoftTeams-image-9-1024x384.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/MicrosoftTeams-image-9-1024x384.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/MicrosoftTeams-image-9-300x112.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/MicrosoftTeams-image-9-768x288.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/MicrosoftTeams-image-9-1536x576.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/MicrosoftTeams-image-9-1500x562.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/01\/MicrosoftTeams-image-9.jpg 1667w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"shift-your-usage-to-off-peak-times\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Shift your usage to off-peak times<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re on a half-hourly contract \u2013 or are able to switch to a multi-rate electricity contract with lower rates at off-peak times \u2013 battery storage can help you shift some of your energy usage and save. This is because you could charge up your battery during cheaper off-peak times, then use electricity from the battery rather than the grid during peak-rate periods.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"sell-electricity\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sell electricity<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on the capacity of your solar array you may generate more than you need to use onsite. This means that as well as saving on your energy bills, you can sell electricity to a supplier like Good Energy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your asset has a capacity of up to 250kW, you can choose a contract for smaller generators. We\u2019re also developing new export tariffs to enable even more households and businesses to get paid for their power.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re generating more than 250kW, you can explore our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/business\/get-paid-for-your-power\/\">Power Purchase Agreements<\/a>. These pay you market rates for your electricity, with contracts of up to three years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"is--inner-block wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOf the energy that we produce on this site, around 40% is used running the plant, running the buildings [\u2026] the rest we sell to Good Energy\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<cite><strong>Fre-energy&nbsp;<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"cut-your-carbon-emissions\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cut your carbon emissions<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-teal-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/cop26-sees-uk-businesses-lead-the-world-in-climate-change-commitments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Over half<\/a> of the UK\u2019s FTSE 100 companies have signed up to a UN campaign to eliminate their contribution to climate change by 2050. But when looking at the UK business community as a whole, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edie.net\/less-than-one-third-of-uk-businesses-have-net-zero-strategies-survey-reveals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">less than one third<\/a> have published a decarbonisation strategy. One of the key reasons cited \u2013 especially among smaller firms \u2013 is feeling unsure about what steps can be taken.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><br>Thankfully, as well as reducing your bills, installing onsite generation will directly reduce carbon emissions from your energy usage.
