Ofgem sets rules to protect smaller business energy customers.\u00a0Your rights depend on whether your business is classed as:\u00a0

– A\u00a0microbusiness<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0
– A\u00a0small business<\/strong>\u00a0
– Or a\u00a0larger business<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ll\u00a0check this when you join, move premises, or renew your contract.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Checking\u00a0your business size\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Microbusiness<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019re a microbusiness if any of these apply<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

– You have\u00a0fewer than 10 employees<\/strong>\u00a0and a turnover or balance sheet under \u00a32 million
– You use\u00a0less than 100,000 kWh of electricity per year<\/strong>\u00a0
– You use\u00a0less than 293,000 kWh of gas per year<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small business<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019re a small business if any of these apply<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

– You have\u00a0fewer than 50 employees<\/strong>\u00a0and:\u00a0\u00a0
– a\u00a0turnover\u00a0of\u00a0under \u00a36.5 million, or\u00a0\u00a0
– a balance sheet under \u00a35 million\u00a0\u00a0
– You use\u00a0less than 200,000 kWh of electricity per year<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0
– You use\u00a0less than 500,000 kWh of gas per year<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Larger business<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

If you don\u2019t meet the criteria above, you\u2019re classed as a larger business<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019re\u00a0still protected by general energy supply rules, but some\u00a0additional\u00a0protections do not apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Understanding\u00a0your protections<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If you\u2019re a microbusiness<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

You get the highest level of protection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Billing protection:\u00a0<\/strong>We\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0charge you for energy used more than 12 months ago, unless:\u00a0the issue\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0our fault, or\u00a0you prevented us from billing accurately.
– Meter and service standards:\u00a0<\/strong>If we\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0fix a reported meter fault in time, you may receive compensation.\u00a0
– Clear contracts and communication:\u00a0<\/strong>You\u2019ll\u00a0get clear information about\u00a0your prices and terms, and contract end dates and renewal options.\u00a0
–Broker protection:\u00a0<\/strong>If you\u00a0use\u00a0a\u00a0broker, they must be part of an independent dispute resolution scheme.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re a small business<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

You\u00a0benefit\u00a0from fair treatment and clear communication, including:\u00a0

-Transparent contract terms\u00a0\u00a0
– Clear billing information\u00a0\u00a0
– Access to complaints support\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some protections, like back-billing limits, only apply to microbusinesses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re a larger business<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll still receive: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Transparent contract terms\u00a0
– Clear billing information\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, specific Ofgem protections for smaller businesses may not apply.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. How we assess your business\u00a0classification<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ll check your business size when you: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Switch to Good Energy\u00a0\u00a0
– Move into a property we supply\u00a0\u00a0
– Renew your contract\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
