Christmas message from Nigel - 2024 Energy Trends
Hello,
As 2024 draws to a close it is time to reflect on yet another eventful year, for the climate, for renewables and for Good Energy.
The year is expected to be another ‘hottest ever’, reminding us yet again that urgent action on climate remains critical.
The good news is that 2024 also looks to be on track to be the first full year in which the UK generated more power from renewables than fossil fuels.
Energy bills remain high, but in the longterm we know that building more, cheap, home grown renewable power is the route to bring them down. And as a Good Energy customer, you are helping to do that.
The energy price cap is increasing from 1st January, but the Good Energy standard tariff will not. Continuing to be the cheapest tariff of those exempt from the cap due to the support provided to renewables.
This recognition of Good Energy’s true greenness is complemented by the accreditations we saw renewed this year. We are the only supplier to hold both the Which? Eco Provider and Uswitch Green Tariff Gold Standard recommendations. And for the first time this year we became the only home energy supplier to be B Corp certified — a reflection of our commitment to positive environmental and social impact.
None of which would be possible without the support of our customers, thank you. If you need to get in touch with one of our team over the Christmas period, contact hours are below.
I will leave you with another little good news story. The Good Energy Solar team’s last big job of the year was an iconic installation at Sea Life Scarborough. The ‘extreme panelling’ (to quote one of our team) on the pyramids had to be done in record time, because… the penguins needed to return by 1st December. After a brief holiday while the work was done, they are now back home in their solar powered penguin enclosure, in time for the festive season.
Have a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Nigel
