Our winter price freeze promise

We’re pleased to announce that we’re going to freeze our price this winter, giving our domestic customers peace of mind and no nasty shocks.
It means that for our customers on our standard variable tariff we promise not to raise the price of our gas and electricity until the beginning of March 2017 at the very earliest.
We can do this because we’re shrewd about how we source our power.
Our clever trading team work out exactly how much our customers need well in advance and make sure we don’t have to worry about topping it up when it may become pricier.
And, of course, all of our power comes from the UK so we’re not exposed to currency changes.
Meanwhile, some energy suppliers are bumping their prices up just when customers are going to start using it more!
We all know that when it’s colder and darker, most will need to turn the lights and heating on for a bit longer each day.
We like to keep our price stable because that’s what our customers like. No surprises.
This year some energy suppliers have been trying to tempt new customers to switch with almost unbelievably cheap deals.
That may seem well and good, but we know that some of the deals are too low to sustain.
They are actually loss-leading.
And guess what..?
Right now, wholesale power prices (that’s the price energy companies buy for before they sell it on to you) have spiked. Just look at our graph above.
So, unless they’ve managed their power as shrewdly as Good Energy, it’s inevitable that those suppliers who have previously offered ultra-cheap, loss-leading tariffs will have to put their prices up. Or, even worse, go bust.
Sure enough, we are now seeing other energy companies whacking up their prices.
As the old saying goes, “if it looks too good to be true then it probably is!”
So where does all this leave the customer?
Well, it certainly leaves them lumbered with a price shock and having to search for a new supplier.
