With Olympic and Paralympic fever still gripping the nation, here at Good Energy we’re proud to be backing British sporting endeavour, from the grassroots to the professional ‘elite’.
Support for local sports clubs has always been a big part of our investment in communities around wind and solar farms.
For example, both the village cricket club and football club in Delabole are now sporting smart new kits thanks to grants provided by our first wind farm.
We were sorry to see that Team GB didn’t enter a women’s football team to the Olympics in Rio this year, especially since England came third in last year’s World Cup.
Perhaps at the 2020 games in Tokyo they’ll find some inspiration from the ladies from Wool and Winfrith’s Soccer Team – who last year bagged themselves some new football kit and a new coaching course thanks to our Woolbridge Solar Farm.
And it’s not just sportswear; we’re keen to support healthy recreation in lots of ways. Our Hampole wind farm has helped give the facilities at Hooton Pagnell Youth Club a leg up. The club is a safe, social environment for young people that will soon boast a snooker table, table tennis table and a football table thanks to our investment.
Sport is something we promote from within; we do what we can to keep our employees active and healthy. Lunchtime sports clubs are run every Wednesday – staff can take a longer lunch break to get their hearts and minds racing.
Our Active Travel Champions also help to promote cycling and walking by organising bike rides to encourage everyone to make the most of pedal power.
At the other end of the sporting spectrum, we are proud to be the official energy partner of Bath Rugby. Powering the Recreation Ground with our 100% renewable electricity means an enormous 500kg of carbon is saved at every home match!
Although the Olympic and Paralympic frenzy will soon draw to a close for another four years, we’re looking forward to seeing more of our communities inspired to get active, and perhaps even grow the next generation of sporting heroes! So get behind your local sports teams and help bring alive the Paralympic motto of “spirit in motion” in your community.
Switching to Good Energy is helping local communities, so when you choose us you’re doing more good than you may realise.
