Good Energy now employs over 300 people in the historic market town of Chippenham, Wiltshire.
About the role
As Head of Architecture, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining Good Energy’s technology strategy, and building technology products and solutions that help us to run efficient operations, support business users and engage with customers.
Reporting to the CTO, the Head of Architecture will lead buy vs build decisions on applications and platforms, lead the selection of frameworks and languages, and support the successful implementation and integration of digital products and business solutions across the full development lifecycle.
With a knowledge of a wide range of established and emerging technologies and an excellent understanding of modern software engineering practices such as DevOps and CI/CD, you will support and guide teams to take an agile engineering approach, using technology to solve complex problems, and to continuously explore opportunities that will deliver value to the business and our customers.
- Line manage a small team of Technical and Development Leads, with responsibility for their professional and personal development.
- Lead the development of a clear and defined overarching technology strategy and approach to meet the mission, objectives and overall strategy.
- Manage and maintain a roadmap for change across all systems with a particular focus on foundational operational, integration and data platforms and systems.
- Support the delivery of usable and engaging solutions to improve efficiency in the business, and improve service to the customer such as customer-facing digital products and services.
- Establish and continuously improve agile engineering standards to support fast cycle time and continuous delivery.
- Build, mature and embed the Enterprise Architecture practice within Good Energy
Passionate about great technology and customer experience you will have a background in enterprise IT with an understanding of legacy systems. Your recent experience will have been leading agile teams to deliver scalable, cloud-based platforms and digital products, ideally including web and mobile. You will most likely have a background in a retail or B2C business. You will be motivated to support technical teams to deliver software in the most efficient and effective way, and promoting experimentation and innovation.
With a degree or postgraduate qualification in Computer Science, Engineering or similar, you will have a wide knowledge of open source languages, tools and frameworks and experience of developing high-performance, high-availability .net and Java applications using the latest technologies and frameworks. You will have strong experience of cloud-based infrastructure including deployment scaling and performance monitoring. Having led on a number of software development projects, you will also have led and mentored multiple teams.
A background in the UK energy sector is desirable but not essential, however you must be motivated by working for a purpose and values led organisation, with the capability to quickly learn about a complex regulated industry.
