Delabole consultation process
Involving the local community in wind farm developments is extremely important to us, and vital to a project’s success.
Our final proposal for the Delabole redevelopment project was generally welcomed by the local community in North Cornwall and we believe this is partly because we involved residents in our plans from the very early stages, answering their questions and helping to allay any concerns. From the outset we wanted to provide as much information as possible to everyone with an interest in the site and we hope that the community feels it’s had an input into the development.
We held two consultations during our project, which allowed us to introduce the proposed plans to the community and listen to their comments before coming back with the plans that would be put to the committee.
In the first we asked the public’s opinion on what they would like to see there – nine smaller turbines or six bigger. People voted by sticking stickers onto a board. We found that the overwhelming majority voted for six bigger turbines.
In the end, our submission to the council was for four bigger turbines as various technical and planning constraints meant that this was the maximum the site could accommodate.
You can take a look at the information boards that were on show at both consultations below. The purple boards are from the first consultation and the yellow boards are from the second, showing the final proposal that we submitted to the council.
