Developing renewables

We support a growing community of over 12,000 independent generators, but generating our own homegrown electricity is also extremely important to us.

Not only does it add to the renewable capacity of the country, but it allows us to sell our own energy to our customers, which helps to stabilise our prices. This communicates a clear message to government and the utilities industry that harnessing renewable energy sources can bring security to the UK energy market. And a reliable energy market is an essential foundation for a successful national and global economy.

Since buying Delabole wind farm in Cornwall, the UK’s first commercial wind farm, in 2002, we have been committed to investing in new sources of renewable generation for the country.

And as an innovator in the industry it is important for us to set the standard for best practice in renewable development. This means quality environmental assessments and thorough community engagement are at the core of every project.

We are embarking on a pipeline of new renewable energy development projects that will amount to 50MW of new capacity across the UK, enough to power a town roughly the size of Cambridge.
