Wind
It blows dust into our eyes, sand into our sandwiches, flips our umbrellas inside out and we’ve certainly got plenty of it. Officially the windiest country in Europe, the UK enjoys 40% of the continent’s entire resource; so it’s lucky we’ve found a good use for it – over 80% of the electricity Good Energy buys comes from the wind.
Our newly developed wind farm in Delabole, Cornwall generates enough electricity to supply around 20% of our customers’ needs. And the really great news is that we’re planning to add over 50MW of new capacity over the next five years – that’s almost enough to power a city the size of Cambridge.
We also support a number of inspirational community projects like Westmill, and businesses like Mackie's Ice Cream as well as farmers and landowners, all generating electricity from the wind.
Case study: Mackie's Ice Cream
At Mackie’s family farm in Aberdeenshire, three wind turbines are powering the manufacture and storage of every tub of their delicious award-winning ice cream
