Good Energy Gas+
Listening to our customers has always been a priority at Good Energy. So when in 2008 over half of them said they wanted us to supply gas as well as electricity, we developed our Gas+ tariff.
36% of the UK’s overall energy is used for heat, creating 175 million tonnes of carbon emissions a year. And with 75% of UK households reliant on mains gas for hot water and to keep their homes warm, a renewable alternative is essential. ‘Green gas’ (or biomethane) – despite the hype – is still some years away from being economically viable, so we developed a product to work in conjunction with our gas tariff which would encourage the growth of renewable heat generation in the UK.
HotROCs was the UK’s first renewable heat incentive, using some of the revenue from Good Energy Gas+ to reward customers generating their own heat. It paved the way for a national Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
We campaigned for a national RHI for many years, and now that's coming to fruition, we're reviewing our Gas+ and HotROCs products to ensure they best support renewable heat generation in this country. We’ll keep you updated with how things develop on our blog and through our monthly eNews.
