Good Energy Gas+
Listening to our customers has always been a priority at Good Energy. So when in 2008 over half of them said they wanted us to supply gas as well as electricity, we developed our Gas+ tariff.
28% of the UK’s overall energy is used for domestic heating, creating over 80 million tonnes of carbon emissions a year. With over 80% of UK households reliant on mains gas for hot water and to keep their homes warm, a renewable alternative is essential. We wanted to do more with our gas tariff, so we developed a product to work in conjunction with it which would encourage the growth of renewable heat generation in the UK.
HotROCs was the UK’s first renewable heat incentive, using some of the revenue from Good Energy Gas+ to reward customers generating their own heat. It paved the way for a national Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
We campaigned for a national RHI for many years. Now this scheme is up and running, we made the difficult decision to close our HotROCs scheme at the end of 2014. Over six years, HotROCs has supported hundreds of renewable heat generators across the country. We are proud to have been the first and only supplier to have helped customers generate their own renewable heat. Although we will no longer be offering our HotROCs scheme, we are now looking at new ways to encourage decarbonisation of gas and heating. We’ll keep you updated with how things develop on our blog and in our monthly eNews.
