A third of Good Energy comes from the sun
RSS Feed• Solar power to supply one third of renewable energy supplier Good Energy’s electricity
August 31st: Good Energy, the UK’s 100% renewable electricity supplier, will be sourcing one third of its electricity from solar power – a first for the UK energy industry.
Following the success of the Government’s Feed-in-Tariff scheme, Good Energy has been working with over 30 new larger-scale solar generators, ranging from a holiday cottage complex in Cornwall to a factory rooftop in Yorkshire. This means that over the course of a typical year, solar power will increase to around 33% of Good Energy’s electricity mix, from less than 1 percent previously.
This will help Good Energy to further stabilise its electricity prices in the future. The green electricity supplier recently announced plans to keep its electricity prices unchanged until 2012, and hopefully longer.
Juliet Davenport, Good Energy’s founder and CEO, said: "The fact that Good Energy customers will now be getting around a third of their electricity from sunlight once again demonstrates Good Energy’s commitment to renewables and shows that solar PV is a viable technology here in the UK. In fact, we get as much sunshine in the UK as Germany does, although Germany generates much more solar power. Solar has a valuable part to play in a balanced renewable energy portfolio, because the sun is often shining when the wind isn't blowing, and vice-versa.
“I’m proud that Good Energy is leading the way in renewable energy and that it is proof that clean, green electricity produced in the UK from natural resources can provide resilience against price volatility caused by relying on energy imported from abroad.”
