GOOD ENERGY’S JULIET DAVENPORT NAMED JOINT ‘FIRST WOMAN OF RETAIL AND CONSUMER’ AT FIRST WOMEN AWARDS

Juliet Davenport, CEO of Chippenham-based company Good Energy, the UK’s 100% renewable electricity supplier, was honoured last night at the annual 2011 First Women Awards, winning the award for the Retail and Consumer sector.
The First Women Awards, in association with Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets, took place at the Grand Connaught Rooms, London, and brought together some of Britain’s most dynamic women in recognition of their outstanding work breaking new ground across a range of industries. The evening was compered by television presenter and sports journalist Clare Balding.
CEO and founder of Good Energy, Juliet Davenport, has built up the 100% renewable electricity supply company from scratch over the last ten years, combining her scientific background as an Oxford physics graduate with experience working in European government and obvious entrepreneurial flair.
Juliet Davenport said: “It’s fantastic to be surrounded by such a great group of inspiring, talented and high-achieving businesswomen tonight – and I feel honoured to be receiving this award in such great company. I set up Good Energy to offer people a better choice when it came to their electricity – to make a difference to climate change and support the growth of renewables by choosing an electricity supply that came from 100% green sources. I would like to thank the First Women Awards for recognising myself and Good Energy as pioneers by presenting us with the Retail and Consumer Award.”
Juliet shared the honour of the award with Thea Green, Managing Director of Nails Inc. The competition was fierce this year with Juliet’s competition including: Susan Elston, Managing Director, Aramark, Jill McDonald, Chief Marketing Officer for the UK and Northern Europe McDonald’s Restaurants and Belinda Parmar, Founder of Lady Geek.
Other categories include nominees from companies as diverse as Freshfields, Pathaks, Imperial College and Quantum Pharmaceutical.
