Good Energy responds to ECCC EMR report
RSS Feed16th May 2011: Juliet Davenport, CEO Good Energy, Britain's leading supplier of 100% renewable electricity gave evidence to the Energy and Climate Change Committee inquiry into Electricity Market Reform on 2nd February in the House of Commons.
Responding to the report published today Juliet Davenport says: "We warmly welcome the Committee's report, which is an important contribution to the debate around the shape of our future energy markets. It's good to see that the Committee has taken into account numerous arguments Good Energy made during our evidence session in February, including the need for transparency over Government support for all types of energy. It is important that the Government creates a truly level playing field so that renewable energy doesn't miss out because of hidden subsidies for other technologies.
"We're pleased that the Committee has recognized the importance of building the necessary infrastructure to encourage investment in a decentralised energy market, which is, after all, the energy market of the future. By calling for "different Feed-in Tariffs for different technologies", the Committee clearly recognises that the Government's existing proposals are not sufficient to support and encourage local, decentralised, renewable energy. I hope the Government's White Paper reflects this, but suspect the key lies in David Cameron balancing the Treasury's work on reducing the deficit with his pledge to lead the Greenest Government Ever."
