  • Take Good Energy’s carbon challenge and win a year’s free green electricity

5 May 2011: Renowned eco-friendly chef and social entrepreneur Arthur Potts Dawson will join forces with 100% renewable electricity supplier, Good Energy, at Earl’s Court’s Real Food Festival this weekend. Good Energy and Potts Dawson will use the Festival to encourage visitors to think about where their energy comes from in the kitchen and how they can cut down on ‘carbon calories’.

“Good Energy believes that the more we consider where our energy comes from, the less we use,” says Potts Dawson. “This is especially true when we think about buying and cooking food, and I’m developing some fantastic new recipes for Good Energy which taste delicious and are not energy intensive.”

Arthur Potts Dawson will be showcasing some of his exclusive ‘low carbon’ recipes at the Real Food Festival at Earls Court on Saturday at 3 pm. This will be followed by in June by the release of the Good Energy ‘low-carbon kitchen guide’ which will be packed with energy-efficient kitchen tips and delicious recipes which won’t break the energy bank.

Just as Arthur Potts Dawson believes in supporting local seasonal food producers, Good Energy believes in local, homegrown green energy. Good Energy supplies 100% renewable electricity sourced from a community of independent, small-scale producers, such as farmers, communities and homeowners –as well as larger wind, hydro and solar generators.

“Switching to Good Energy is like buying from a farmers’ market rather than a supermarket,” says Good Energy CEO, Juliet Davenport. “Our energy is sourced from a growing band of over 2,000 small renewable generators – the mini power stations of the future - who produce green electricity for themselves and sell their surplus to Good Energy which we then sell on to our customers.”

Good Energy believes that the UK can be powered by 100% renewable energy by 2050 through investment in renewable infrastructure and by reducing consumer demand. With the kitchen accounting for over a third of the average household’s electricity consumption, Good Energy’s stand at the Real Food Festival will show visitors where they can cut down, helping them to save energy and save money.

Good Energy will also show visitors at the Real Food Festival how little extra it costs to switch to certified pure, green electricity.  Visitors will simply be asked to provide their energy usage details and choose a small food indulgence they could substitute – coffee, chocolate or wine – which represents the additional monthly cost of switching to carbon-free electricity. In return, Good Energy will give them a voucher for the indulgence of their choice to exchange at the festival from one of the other exhibitors. What’s more, anyone switching their electricity supply to Good Energy at the festival will get £50 off their first bill and the chance to win a year’s free electricity*. So come along to stand 99, find out more about Good Energy’s community of generators producing homegrown energy, and take the carbon challenge!

*Please bring an electricity bill with you. Maximum prize value £500.
