Good future

Our vision is of a decentralised and democratic energy network for Britain. Energy provision doesn’t need to be complex and mysterious, delivered by remote corporations. It can be generated independently by innovative individuals and groups across the country from the natural resources that surround them.

Putting power in the hands of the people and bringing energy generation into the community means consumers will have a closer and more intelligent relationship with it. When people understand where energy comes from and have a sense of ownership of it, they will value it more and use it less. Energy that’s local, natural and renewable is energy that is secured for future generations.

Achieving it will mean meeting an increasing amount of our energy needs with electricity; so ensuring our electricity is renewably sourced is more than a goal, it will be necessity.

The UK has a binding target to meet by 2020; to produce 15% of its energy from renewable sources. Good Energy believes we can not only meet these targets, but exceed them; and that the UK can be 100% renewable by 2050. And we’re not alone. There’s a growing body of research, including our own, that proves it’s possible. But to do it we need to turn the energy market upside down. We’ve developed a pathway which clearly illustrates how the rest of the energy market can join us in building a renewable energy future.

Our vision of the future looks very different to what we see today: energy companies will be transformed from leviathans to enablers and, maybe, by 2050, they will all look like Good Energy.
