75% of UK homes rely on gas for heating & cooking. This accounts for 14.5% of UK CO2 emissions.
Many of our customers have been asking for us to supply them gas as well as electricity. They would rather spend their money supporting our mission to grow renewables in the UK than with the Big 6.

This put us in a dilemma. After 8 years committed to renewables we couldn’t just launch a standard gas product. How to make it support our mission?
At this time, the UK mains gas supply cannot support renewable gas (though some people are trying to figure out a way to make it work). We looked at offsetting, but the market is fairly crowded and we are not sure that we can make a big difference there.
But… when we looked at how people are using renewable heat sources, like solar thermal panels, for their home heating, we found a BIG hole - there is no incentive to support people making that step. This is where we can make a big difference using revenues from our gas product.
Our consultation partners - Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and WWF agreed.
So Good Energy have launched Good Energy Gas and the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) to change the face of home heating.
We will pay owners of solar thermal installations for every unit of heat generated using solar panels. We are launching a research project to expand the scheme and create a benchmark for the industry.
We believe that this significant development will catalyse growth of renewable heat generation and a reduction in use of gas and oil.
