General requirements

To join the Offgrid scheme, there are a few basic requirements that you need to meet. We cannot process your application unless all these requirements are met.

  • The generating system must be AC metered. This means that the total generation meter is an Alternating Current (AC) meter. Unfortunately we can not accept Direct Current (DC) total generation meters on to the scheme at this time as these meters are not yet accredited with Ofgem for renewable certificates. Your installer should assist you with getting the correct metering fitted.
  • The generator is less than 10kW. We will support Offgrid Generators of up to 10kW in size. If you have an Offgrid generator larger than this please follow the link to find out about our Power Purchase Agreements.
  • You must have an Ofgem accredited total generation meter fitted. This records everything that the generator produces, and is normally fitted by your installer. Please see the Ofgem PDF file for a list of approved total generation meters. Your installer can assist you further with this.

Your renewable generator must already be in place. We will ask you for details of the installation on application.
