Good Energy’s guide to getting FiT gives you the must have information for renewable generators of all sizes and for those about to begin their generation journey.
Rates of payment
Under the Feed-in Tariff you could receive anywhere from 4.5p to 41.3p for each unit of electricity you generate - it depends on what type and size of generator you are. To see the full breakdown of payments, click here
Two elements to your FiT payment
You will receive a Total Generation Payment - this is a price for every unit of electricity that you generate including the ones you generate and use at your property. And you will get an Export Payment - this is a price for each unit that is not used by you and is exported to the local grid. For the smallest generators levels of export will be estimated.

Microgenerators
How microgenerators register to receive FiT
Full details of how to register have not yet been made available. As soon as they are known we will be glad to tell you. Please register your interest in Good Energy’s FiT so we can share this information with you as soon as we have it.
What payments existing microgenerators are entitled to
Microgenerators that had applied for accreditation under the RO before 15 July 2009 will be entitled to just 9p for total generation and 3p for exported units. Good Energy thinks it is extremely unfair that these pioneers are being excluded from the full benefits the FiT offers. Good Energy is working to get a better deal for you, and in the meantime has pledged to continue paying up to 15p per unit to all accredited HomeGen customers that signed up to Good Energy’s HomeGen scheme before 4th February 2010.
New microgenerators - make sure you’re eligible
New wind, solar PV and hydro projects of 50kW or less have to use Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) eligible products installed by MCS accredited installers to be eligible to receive the FiT. Good Energy only recommends accredited products and installers which you can find at www.generateyourown.co.uk
Existing microgenerators - make sure you’re eligible
Any installation completed before 15 July 2009 must be registered for accreditation under the Renewables Obligation to be entitled to receive FiT payments. If you are an existing generator and have not begun your Renewable Obligation accreditation you will be entitled to no payment unless you apply for accreditation before 1st April 2010. If your have submitted you accreditation documents but they have not been processed by Ofgem, hopefully you will be entitled to FiT payments. Good Energy is working hard, insisting Ofgem keeps this window open longer to complete and approve your applications.
Larger Generators
How larger generators register to receive FiT
Generators larger than 50kW in scale must register their installation through a process based on the existing Renewable Obligation process, known as the ROO-FIT process, in order to be eligible for FIT support. Ofgem guidance for generators.
Choosing ROC or FIT
Installations with a capacity greater than 50kW, or installations of any capacity in technologies not covered by FITs, will still be eligible to apply for support through the Renewables Obligation should they choose to.
Options for larger generators accredited under the Renewable Obligation after 15th July 2009
Installations greater than 50kW that are in technologies eligible for FiT and joined the RO after 15 July 2009 have a one-off opportunity of moving to FiT support. Those that installed before 15 July 2009 will not be eligible for FiT but will continue to be eligible for support through the RO.
