Where we get the Good stuff - renewable energy sources
Good Energy customers are supporting an ever growing network of independent renewable energy generators. We source electricity from people generating sustainably from wind turbines, solar panels, small hydro and sustainable biomass all around the country, supplying the national grid with only 100% pure, clean, green energy.
We have over 1000 independent renewable energy sources on our books, and the map below shows a few of our favourites. By buying your electricity from Good Energy, you’re helping us support this community of pioneering renewable generators.
Our renewable energy sources
Wind
Most of the electricity we buy comes from wind power. And we’ve got a lot of it in the UK. We have our own wind farm down in Delabole, Cornwall, the first commercial wind farm in the UK in fact, which we are currently applying to re-power. We also support some inspirational community projects like Westmill, businesses and a large number of land owners and farmers diversifying into wind power.
Hydro
We love water. About 13% of Good Energy comes from hydro generation. We buy hydro electricity from all kinds of places like Glen Lyn Gorge and Sowton Mill in Devon, and we’re even purchasing from a prototype onshore wave generator. Supporting emerging technologies is important to Good Energy.
Solar PV
Whilst the UK is not the sunniest place in Europe, modern solar panels are finely tuned to our grey skies and can still provide vast amounts of green electricity. We buy solar power from a few large generators like
St Aldhelm’s Church, and the Peabody Trust. What we are really proud of however, is our payment scheme for home solar panels. This rewards people who generate renewable electricity at home by paying them for the output, even if they use it themselves.
Biogen - sustainable biomass
That’s right, we’re sourcing energy from sustainable biomass. To find out how, click here.
With the increase in use of technology for generating electricity from biomass and biogas Good Energy is supporting generators doing this in a deep green way. To find out how we make sure our bio-energy electricity is only ever environmentally friendly, click here.
