We don’t all have our own windy hilltop, but for those that do, installing a wind turbine can be a great investment. Not to mention the important part it plays in helping the UK achieve a future powered purely by renewables.

Good Energy customer Mike Hill and his stepfather Ray run a vehicle accident repair centre on an industrial estate in Doncaster, South Yorkshire and invested in two 18 metre wind turbines at the end of 2009. “The site is fairly high up with not very much woodland around and far away from housing and livestock so we thought it made sense,” says Mike.

The pair spent £200,000 in total and sell all the energy generated back to the grid, which, thanks to the Feed-in Tariff, yields them £50,000 annual return. As Mike told Good Energy recently, “nothing else out there could touch that rate.”
