Why generate?
Generating your own renewable energy isn’t just good for the planet; it can be good for you too.
A good investment
The cost of becoming a generator can vary significantly depending on the technology and size of the installation, but provided it's correctly sited it's likeky to deliver a healthy return. Our assessment surveys are a great place to start.
Increased energy security for the country
60% of the UK’s energy needs are currently met by imported power. This means we have little control over its availability and price. And that compromises our energy and therefore economic security. Developed alongside large-scale renewables, home generation has the potential to help the UK become self-sufficient in its energy needs as well as underpin the beginning of a new, low carbon economy.
Increased energy security for you
Consumers have already begun to see significant rises in energy prices. This has been due in part to events out of our control in other areas of the world. Generating your own energy helps to insulate you from this. Solar photovoltaic panels and small-scale wind turbines can be expected to generate 30 to 50% of your home’s electricity requirements, cutting your bill by a corresponding amount. And thanks to the Feed-in Tariff you’ll earn an additional income from the energy you generate.
Helping to tackle climate change
Worldwide, burning fossil fuels to supply our energy needs – to heat our homes, grow our food and power our transport – contributes to almost three quarters of all manmade greenhouse gas emissions. The concentration of these gases in the earth’s atmosphere is higher than it has been at any time in the last 800,000 years, increasing the ‘greenhouse effect’ and causing our climate to change unnaturally.
The more renewable energy generation there is – be it large-scale developments or home installations – the less reliant we’ll be on burning polluting fossil fuels to meet our energy needs and the closer we are to preventing irreversible climate change.
