General requirements
To be eligible to join Good Energy Feed-in Tariff schemes for microgenerators (Good Energy HomeGen or SmartGen) and receive Feed-in Tariff payments:
- your generator must be certified through the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). You'll also need to provide your MCS installer certificate number
- you must have a certified Total Generation Meter
- if your generator is under 4kW in size you must notify the electricity distribution company that you are connecting a microgenerator to the grid
- if your generator is over 4kW in size you will need to enter a “connection agreement” with the electricity distribution company. See below for more information.
Please note: If your microgeneration system was installed before 15 July 2009, in order to be eligible for Feed-in Tariff, it needs to have been accredited by industry regulator, Ofgem, under the Renewable Obligation accreditation and appear on its Renewable and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) register.
