Finance

Choosing how to finance your renewable energy generator can feel like a big decision, but there are a few options available to you.

Solar PV for free
If your home is perfect for solar PV but you don’t have the available funds and you’re not keen on a loan, this option could be the one for you. A number of installers will provide you with solar PV panels for free; they’ll claim the Feed-in Tariff and you’ll be able to use the electricity you generate, still giving you significant savings.

It’s important to be aware that this will involve you entering into a lease agreement with the installer for your roof space which will last for up to 26 years. We think our partners’ agreements are fair but you should read through any contract that they present you with thoroughly and you should consider seeking professional legal advice if there are terms in the contract you do not fully understand.

Self-funding
Choosing to fund the installation yourself means you are entitled to the whole Feed-in Tariff income and will have no loan repayments.

Take out a loan
You may choose to borrow the money required for the installation. The three ethical lenders listed below are familiar with, understand and support domestic generation projects.

The Charity Bank
Finances social enterprises, charities and community organisations, and aims to be the “different bank for people who want a different world.” The Charity Bank focuses more on larger loans that are over £50,000.

The Co-operative Bank
Runs its business with impressive principles, has strong ethical policies and campaigns for a better world.

Zopa
Introduces individuals that want to lend money to individuals that want to borrow,f cutting out the middle men.
