Take time choosing your technology

• Decide which technology is best by asking yourself these quick questions about your site.
• Take our assessment survey to get a detailed assessment of the output of your generator.
• It’s wise to get quotes from between three and five different installers to ensure you are receiving the best price and service. Our recommended installers might be a good place to start. Alternatively, take a look at our tips on choosing an installer.

Check your installer

Your chosen installer must be accredited under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) for the relevant technology. Here’s a list of accredited installers.

Please note: If either the system you install or the company that installs it are not MCS certified you will not be eligible for the Feed-in Tariff and Good Energy cannot pay you for your generation.

Check before you sign

Before you sign a contract or pay a deposit:

• Make sure the company gives you in writing a quote including a standard performance estimate specific to your property and a full breakdown of what will be supplied; make sure it’s all-inclusive.
• Make sure the company gives you in writing the standard terms and conditions.

• Never pay more than 25% of the contract price up front and check it will be protected.

• Remember you have the right to cancel the contract within seven days with no penalty; make sure you don’t relinquish this right by signing a waiver.
• If you make any changes to the contract make sure these are agreed in writing and added to the contract.
• If the company makes any changes to the contract make sure you agree them in writing; remember if you are not happy with them you have the right to cancel the contract within seven days with no penalty.
