Feed-in Tariff application process
If you’re installing solar PV panels, the deadline for guaranteeing you qualify for the highest rate of the Feed-in Tariff has now passed.
However, the Feed-in Tariff scheme remains open for applications for solar PV and other renewable energy technologies. If you want to apply for Good Energy's Feed-in Tariff service, follow the simple steps below;
Steps to registering for the Feed-in Tariff
1) On the day your solar panels are installed, fill out the Good Energy FIT sign up form excluding your MCS certificate number and total generation meter reading.
2) Your installer will generate your Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) commissioning certificate. Do not send your FIT form back to us without this information; we cannot register your FIT application without it. It’s worth ensuring with your installer that you will receive your MCS certificate number with enough time to ensure your FIT form is with us before the deadline.
3) When received, enter your MCS certificate number onto the FIT form and take a total generation meter reading to mark the start of your FIT payments.
4) You can return your form in the following ways;
- By post – send your completed form and documents to our offices in Chippenham.
- By hand – We are always delighted to see customers who wish to deliver their documents in person
- By email – scan your completed form and documents and send to fit@goodenergy.co.uk
Information for recent applicants
We have received an exceptionally high volume of FIT applications in the lead-up to the deadline for solar PV on midnight on the 11th of December. We are extremely confident with the systems we have in place but there are a few things you should be aware of if you have submitted an application to us with the intention of claiming the higher rate for solar PV;
- To be eligible for the higher FIT rate steps we must receive your correctly completed FIT form by midnight on the 11th of December. Any applications we receive after this date or without an MCS certificate will miss the deadline.
- Without confirmation from Good Energy you cannot assume that we have received your application. Email and web form applications are the only method by which we can provide confirmation of receipt.
- Confirmation of receipt of application does not constitute validation of application or guarantee its eligibility.
- If for any reason your eligibility fails, Good Energy is not liable. Generators are responsible for the validity and eligibility of their application.
- Good Energy reserves the right to reclaim FIT money paid for applications made without a valid MCS certificate.
- Providing an MCS certificate number for an installation that has not been correctly installed or knowingly providing false information on an application is fraud.
Getting paid for your energy
Below are the simple steps that take you from your sunny rooftop to money in the bank.
1) Once received, Good Energy will check your FIT form for any missing details or errors and will be in touch (usually by email) if there are any queries.
2) When any queries are resolved your details will be added to our database and we’ll send you a terms and conditions letter.
3) You then have a 7-day cooling off period, during which you have the option to cancel your application. Once this cooling off period is over, if we haven’t heard from you we’ll register your installation for the FIT with OFGEM.
4) Once registration is complete we’ll send you a letter welcoming you to our FIT service.
5) During your time as a Good Energy generator we will request meter readings at the end of every calendar quarter. We will pay you as soon as we receive the money from OFGEM – this tends to be about eight weeks after the reads are requested.
