Holm and Hollymill

Plans for our new wind farm at Holm and Hollymill Farms in Aberdeenshire are well underway with the second consultation taking place on the 25th of January. We first spoke to local residents and interested parties back in September last year, asking them for their views on two potential layouts for the site – one for three 2.3MW turbines and another for four 800kW turbines.

The results revealed that 76% of attendees favoured a development with a smaller number of larger turbines producing a greater output of electricity. A few individuals also expressed a desire for the turbines to be moved away from the Deveron Valley. We’ve taken these points of view into account and the turbine nearest the valley has been removed completely. We are now looking forward to presenting our revised proposal of two 2.3MW turbines which is about to be submitted to the Aberdeenshire planning department.

Thorough community engagement and quality environmental assessments are at the core of all our developments. Jessica Knowles, Good Energy’s project developer, explains: ‘We want to ensure that those living close to our wind farms benefit from and feel part of the project. Not only is it vital to a successful development; it’s integral to achieving our vision of a renewable future for the country. We believe the closer our connection with energy, the more we’ll value it and the less we’ll use.’

Also on display will be our updated plans for community benefits.  At the previous consultation local residents showed wide support for all the options proposed, including a community bond, a local electricity tariff and a community fund to provide financial support to local projects.

This new proposed wind farm is the second in a pipeline of developments we have planned over the next 5 years – enough wind energy to power all the homes in a city about the size of Cambridge. Read more about our developments projects – including our wind farm in Delabole, Cornwall.
