Biomass boiler at St Mary's School, Timsbury one of first to be recognised under Renewable Heat Incentive

Launched on November 28th for non-domestic installations, the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a payment made to those choosing to generate their own renewable heat. We’ve been running our own version, HotROCs, since 2008 and like the Feed-in Tariff for electricity the RHI encourages more renewable heat generation in the UK, cutting carbon emissions and reducing the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels.
We wasted no time in registering the biomass boiler at St Mary's School, Timsbury. Invested in on behalf of our customers under our commitment to the Green Energy Supply Certification Scheme, we’re delighted it’s going to be one of the first projects to be recognised under the new RHI. We’re currently working with the boiler installer, the local council and the school to collate all the information we need to apply for accreditation. There are just a few technical things to sort out so it won’t be long before the boiler starts generating an income. The money earned will be fed into an independently administered ‘cascade’ fund which will be used to develop more community renewable heat projects just like it.
