3 x 850kW wind turbines
Mackie’s Farm
Aberdeenshire
Ice cream is already many people’s first choice for comfort food, but the frozen delights coming from Mackie’s farm in Aberdeenshire have an extra feel good factor. The production of every last scoop of their award-winning ice cream is powered by the farm’s three turbines spinning steadily in the Scottish wind.
Generating more than enough electricity to take care of 500 cows 1,500 acres of arable land and the production of over 10 million litres of ice cream every year, the surplus is sold to Good Energy. This energy is then fed into the local grid to supply homes and businesses in the area. And that’s not to mention the 3,225 tonnes of C02 they prevent from being released into the atmosphere every single year.
“Using this country’s fantastic resources, whether it’s to produce food or energy, makes complete sense,” says Karin Hayhow (née Mackie), Mackie’s Marketing Director. “People like to know where their food comes from and that it’s made from natural ingredients. The same goes for energy.”
We're sponsoring this year's Real Food Festival. To celebrate we’re giving a bottle of Biodynamic Champagne from Good Energy customer Vintage Roots, the organic wine people, to everyone who switches to our 100% renewable electricity between Friday April 29th and Sunday May 8th. Together we do this.
