Friends of the Earth

Working with like-minded partners has always been a key part of how Good Energy delivers our ambition to grow renewable energy in the UK.

It will come as little surprise that one of the organisations that we’ve had a particularly long partnership with is Friends of the Earth (FOE) – like us, they believe that a green future for the UK provides a whole host of opportunities for people from all communities and backgrounds. They share our view that renewable energy is practical, deliverable and, should be an intrinsic part of the UK’s low-carbon future. They also passionately believe that to deliver a renewable future, policymakers need to work with the grain of households, businesses and local communities, not against it – something else which is at the core of Good Energy’s values. As well as supporting their key campaigns, for every person that signs up to Good Energy quoting FOE, we donate £50 to help fund their work.

On the campaigning front, FOE is hard at work right now on a number of issues we think are of interest to our customers. They’ve been quick to highlight how renewable energy can avoid many of the problems associated with nuclear, which have been so shockingly demonstrated of late. If you want to have your say about the future of nuclear power, you can sign their petition here.

They also have a number of ongoing campaigns around the Energy Bill that’s in the process of going through Parliament. One of things Friends of the Earth is pushing hard is ensuring that central Government does more to recognise some of the great work that local councils are doing to reduce emissions in their area. Local carbon budgets have the potential to ensure that carbon reduction measures are not product of some Whitehall diktat that has no consideration of communities’ circumstances – instead, they will ensure that those measures are locally based, tailor-made and community driven.

These budgets have the potential to deliver a real and lasting change to the way we tackle our carbon emissions. They will ensure that local communities are fully engaged with efforts to meet our reduction targets. So if you want to make sure that your council is doing what it can by working with people as closely as possible to reduce emissions, and if you share our view that the best way to reduce our emissions is by working with people, then getting on board with the campaign is a great way of helping make this happen.

Good Energy is backing the campaign and we hope that you will want to too. We’ll be giving you the tools to do this shortly, so watch this space!

Together we do this.
