Jungle Fever is a new campaign from Good Energy partner Cool It Schools.  Its aim is to educate consumers about the impact of what goes into their shopping basket on the world’s rainforests. Most shoppers are unaware that by buying everyday products containing palm oil and soy, they are contributing to 28 million acres of rainforest destruction each year. If deforestation continues at this rate, in just 49 years, there will be no more rainforests left.

The loss of our forests contributes to between 12 and 15 per cent of all greenhouse gas emissions each year - roughly the same percentage as all the world's trains, planes and cars combined. So if we are to tackle climate change we urgently need to find ways to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions caused by forest destruction each year, and to keep the remaining forests standing.

The Jungle Fever Forest Friendly shopping tips and list gives some great ideas about how to vote with the pound in your pocket and reject products that destroy rainforests. Top tips include buying local, seasonal fresh food and being a ‘forest friendly detective’, finding those hidden ingredients that cause rainforest destruction.

As well as raising awareness, the campaign is raising cash for four charities and one forest project working at the cutting edge of conservation: Rainforest Concern, Cool Earth, the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), Size of Wales, and the Forestry Commission.
