Good Energy gets full marks from the Ethical Company Organisation
RSS FeedIt’s not just our renewable electricity that’s 100%. We’ve been awarded Ethical Accreditation by the Ethical Company Organisation for the eighth year in a row and were once again the only renewable electricity supplier to score maximum points. This means we sit at the top of the ethical comparison table.
The Ethical Company Organisation’s research takes a close look at all aspects of companies’ CSR records – including environmental issues, animal welfare and human rights – and is tailored to each industry sector. The renewable energy research places a particular emphasis on pollution records and the extent to which energy is generated from renewable sources.
Only those companies ranked in the top third of their sector receive Ethical Accreditation and the research is repeated annually to ensure that the awards remain up to date. These latest results will be published in the 10th edition of the Good Shopping Guide, which is out in September. Good Energy is a strong supporter of independent inititatives like this; they're vital to improving clarity for consumers, providing them with an opportunity to see which products and companies are truly ethical. We spent many years campaigning for an accreditation body for green eletricity, which finally came to fruition in the form of the Green Energy Supply Certification Scheme. Launched in April 2010 it allows consumers to distinguish electricity tariffs that are genuinely green.
We aspire to be transparent in all of our activities and produce a Values Report every year to provide a summary of our performance in relation to the environment and our stakeholders. But for us it’s not enough to simply supply electricity that’s generated solely from the natural power of the wind water, sun or through sustainable biogeneration. We want to make sure that the harnessing of green energy is done in the best possible way too. This of course means electricity generation that doesn’t result in a net increase in atmospheric levels of CO2; but it also means doing it in a way that doesn’t impact the surrounding ecological or socio-economic environments. As a result, we have some of the strictest purchasing criteria in the industry – it’s also some of the most transparent. You can take a look at them on our website here.
