Turning the energy industry upside down
RSS FeedLast weekend Good Energy unveiled the pathway to achieving a 100% renewable future by 2050. Our CEO Juliet Davenport was one of the keynote speakers at the annual Schumacher Conference in Bristol and with its theme, Zero-carbon Britain, from aspiration into action, it was the perfect place to lay out our vision.
Juliet mapped out a detailed plan which involves fundamental changes to UK energy at every stage of the process, from grid management to investment, and from research and development to transport.
“The UK has a binding target to meet by 2050; reducing emissions by 80% from a 1990 ‘baseline’ figure. Business as usual will not get us there,” says Juliet. “We need to turn the energy market upside-down. We need to develop a new, closer relationship with the energy we use which will encourage us to value our energy more and use it less. Our vision of the future looks very different to what we see today: energy companies will be transformed from leviathans to enablers and, maybe, by 2050, they will all look like Good Energy.”
If you weren’t able to get to the conference then you can see Juliet’s speech below. A DVD of the full conference will be available shortly from http://www.schumacher.org.uk
