Chocolate makes the world go around
RSS FeedClaire Simon
OK, maybe that’s an exaggeration. However chocolate does seem to have held some sort of magic power over many of us since as long ago as 1100 BC. Back then it was used for ceremonial purposes; nowadays it has become synonymous with transforming a bad mood into a good one and comforting us when we’re down. The folk at the Cotswold District Council certainly saw potential in the sugary stuff, using it as an incentive to get staff to turn their computer monitors off at the end of the day. They spent £50 on some chocolates which were doled out to those who switched off – a small amount in comparison with the potential energy saving worth around £3,000 a year.
Rewarding those who remember to turn off their monitors may seem like a small move, but any measures we can take to save energy can make a big difference. The less energy we all use, the greater the proportion we can meet with renewables, helping the UK on the path to becoming 100% renewable. If you have any specific questions, our customer care team offers an Energy Efficiency Advice Service which is fully endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust.
Here at Good Energy, we think the Cotswold District Council’s use of chocolate to help tackle carbon emissions is great. If you have any nifty ideas how to kick start your workplace into saving energy, let us know. We’d love to hear from you!
