Urgent help needed
RSS FeedOne of our adventuring customers Andy Pag is driving around the world on an eco adventure. Since August 2009 his home has been his Biotruck, a recycled scrap yard bus that runs on waste from cooking oil. The mission is to get this around the planet emitting less than 2 tonnes of carbon, and educating people about sustainable travel along the way.
He has run into a spot of trouble though, and needs our help raising support to finish the journey. See the letter below.
Dear All.
As I’m sure your aware by now I have been arrested and am awaiting to face charges for terrorism here in India, based on the fact I was carrying a satellite phone, and had come from Pakistan (the beard and sandals probably didn’t help my case).
I spent 7 days in custody, 3 in a police cell, and 4 in Ajmer prison, which as you can imagine was horrible. I’m now out on bail, but the police are procrastinating over filing charges. My lawyer thinks they are waiting for the Indian media interest in the case to die down before filing reduced charges.
It’s now been 6 weeks there is no sign of them filing the charges so a judge can consider the case, and I am stuck in the country, keen to get back on track with the global expedition. So I am launching this email campaign and I hope you will join it and invite friends, family, colleagues, clients... to take part. It’s really my only hope of influencing the police to get on with it.
I’m keeping my spirits up with gallows humour, but the reality of the situation is I could face more prison time, and the legal fees and expenses have so far run to around €6000, a significant dent in the expedition budget which means I won’t be able to afford to finish the journey. I’m thinking about how to bridge the gap in the finances (maybe some corporate speaking in Singapore and HK), but in the meantime, I really need your help with the email campaign so I hope you can promote it aggressively.
Its particularly disheartening because the journey was going so well, and I hadn’t used a drop of diesel in over 16,500km since leaving London.
Thanks for your help.
Down but not out.
