Copenhagen has begun!
RSS FeedAnd we’re off. The COP 15 is under way.
If the term “COP 15” has somehow managed to escape you, then you’ve got some catching up to do. But there are no more excuses as 56 newspapers from around the world have today printed a unified editorial, stepping out of their roles as reporters and into the boots of campaigners (can anyone remember when anything like this has ever happened?), on what needs to be achieved at Copenhagen. It is well worth a read...
The whole office would love to be in Copenhagen now, and many of us would like to be negotiating the energy policies! But we have electricity to sell, and realised the irony of broadening the carbon footprint of a meeting that is supposed to reduce emissions. However, you know, we like to work from the inside, so we have asked some pals who are working for the UN and already there to don our Good Energy caps and keep us in the loop. Over the next two weeks Green Energy Republic will be publishing daily reports from the COP 15 by our budding bloggers Kim Coetzee and Anya Boyd.
Both Kim and Anya are working for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) within their respective fields. Anya’s research is into the diffusion of low carbon technology and energy studies, whilst Kim is specialising in the relationship between Climate Change and trade. And yup, you guessed it, they are going to have a lot better an idea of what is going on than us.
So keep tuned in and we’ll keep you updated. Oh and, fingers crossed.
